The Aemilia Gold Ring

£895.00

Description

The Aemilia Gold Ring. Late 2nd to early 3rd century AD. The original was found at Corbridge in 1840. The craftsmanship required to produce a piece of this detail and quality with the tools available at the time is quite remarkable. The openwork motto 'AEMILIAZESES' (Aemilia may you live) may have Christian connotations; itis thought to have been a betrothal gift. This may one of the earliest artefacts ever found from Roman Britain. The original is in the Museum of Antiquities, Newcastle, England. This example is 9 carat yellow gold. 18 carat available on request. Due to the complexity of the design, larger sizes will incur an extra charge.
